Wow, November has been a whirlwind of an adventure. From my wedding on November 7 to today being Black Friday. It’s nice to catch my breath and be in cozy pajamas.
So! Let’s talk about my PERFECT wedding day!
When Katherine and I woke up on the morning of November 7, we asked Alexa what the weather was going to be for the day (it has become SUCH a habit of ours!). We noticed right away that our intimate 2:30pm wedding (we had 40 invited guests) was going to be on a GORGEOUS day. The high was 72-74 degrees and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. We had originally planned with the venue to have the ceremony and reception inside but with such perfect weather the venue was able to accommodate having us outside! (Insert full stadium cheering).
Our set up was pretty straight forward and easy. Beale Manor included all the table coverings in our choice of a Royal Blue like color and because my wife is amazing, we had each table’s set up already pre-portioned into labeled bins so that all we had to do was set the bin on the table and then unpack it/repack it from there.
We went a little different and rather than have one giant cake for everyone we chose to have a cake at each table. This way, when the table was finished with their dinner they could cut into it at will rather than waiting for the bride and groom. Our cakes came from The Happy Mixer. Katherine has severe gluten allergies and as such it was imperative that we could trust that there would be no cross contamination and that the bakery was knowledgeable about this intolerance. We were so happy when we found The Happy Mixer as gluten free is what they do 100%. The cakes that we chose were lemon pound with a strawberry buttercream filling. At the end of the night the only cake that was left was my wife’s and my cake as we hardly had a chance to eat!
The guests loved the cakes (even those guests that never sought out to eat gluten free) and honestly, for six cakes total, it was majorly affordable. Talking less than $200 total.
Lastly, let’s talk food. Oh, my gosh!! Katherine and I originally hired a caterer that ended up closing shop once COVID hit. We felt scrambled! Luckily, and by His grace, we were given a referral that then gave us an additional referral and Katherine and I will sing the praises of this caterer for as long as we breathe.
Y’all, listen. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate this woman and the catering service that she does. We had an in person meeting after an initial phone call to really dive into the flavors, profiles, and food that Kate and I enjoy. We talked about being totally gluten free and, honestly, our somewhat limited budget. Let me tell you about the magic that was worked…
Oh man, was that food good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, let’s not forget that the iced tea wasn’t just some store bought Rutter’s or Turkey Hill (if you know, you know) iced tea. Oh no. She created the iced tea from a personal blend of loose tea!
Katherine and I were so amazed by it all. 100% gluten free, 1000% delicious. And, one of the best parts? The left overs got packed up for Katherine and I to take home. I was eating steak for days and I loved it (although now we are back to a more vegetarian diet).
